GreenSpace Cafe to Open Fast-Casual Spot in Royal Oak

Ferndale’s plant-based restaurant and bar GreenSpace Café is launching a fast-casual concept on Woodward Avenue, just south of 14 Mile Road in Royal Oak (southwest corner of Woodward and 14 Mile).

To be located at 32867 Woodward Ave., GreenSpace Grille & Go is expected to open in early 2018. It will replace Moe’s Southwest Grill, which recently closed.

“Fast food and healthy rarely occur in the same sentence, but that’s what we’re bringing to this busy stretch of Woodward,” says Dr. Joel Khan, a cardiologist who co-owns GreenSpace Cafe with his son, Daniel, and wife, Karen. In addition to the restaurant, the company also operates a food truck.

“The response to our food truck and its tasty eats, like jackfruit sliders, mac and ‘cheese’ and Mexican street corn, has been fantastic,” he says. “We expect the truck and our new restaurant will share some menu items, as they help further our mission to bring food that tastes amazing, and is also nutritious and planet-friendly, to wider audiences.”

GreenSpace Grille & Go’s menu will showcase high-quality vegetables, fruits, grains, and beans made into burgers, bowls, tacos, salads, baked goods, raw juices, and more. Like the original restaurant and the food truck, the new concept will offer plant-based foods, meaning no animal products are used. Designed to serve customers on-the-go, the space also features 12 window seats and plenty of parking.

GreenSpace Café opened in Dec. 2015 and is known for hand-crafted, globally inspired plant-based cuisine. Seasonal menu offerings include salads, small plates, shareable entrees, bowls, nut cheeses, flatbreads, and daily soups, specials, and desserts.

The full bar’s apothecary-style cocktails consist of nuts, fruits, botanicals, and raw juices in lieu of genetically modified products, preservatives, or artificial flavors.

GreenSpace Café is located at 215 W. Nine Mile Rd. in Ferndale and more information can be found here.
