The Great Lakes Repository, a statewide group made up of several multiple listing service agencies and real estate associations that share property listing data, has expanded with agreements with eight Realtor associations and a MLS firm in Farmington Hills.
New members include real estate associations from Detroit, metro Detroit, the Thumb area, Livingston, Lapeer, Jackson, Hillsdale counties, and others. Once the new data goes live in March 2016, the GLR will have an estimated 55,000 — nearly 70 percent — of all active listings in the state.
"We are excited to welcome these new members to The Great Lakes Repository, giving the GLR a total of 19 members representing 12 MLS sharing data (areas)," says Dave DeRees, president of The Great Lakes Repository.
Under the GLR's approach of sharing data, all associations operate their own MLS, enforce their own rules, and manage their own MLS products, but cooperate by sharing their data in one central location.
"The sharing of data fields alone does not make for successful data sharing," DeRees says. "The GLR shares offers of cooperation and compensation. It also allows for sharing of IDX information, shared data on public-facing MLS websites and apps, and the use of the shared data in third-party programs."
