Construction has begun on the $8-million Grass Lake Surgery Center in Grass Lake Township, east of Jackson. The outpatient facility is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2020.
The project is a joint venture between Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson, Advanced Orthopaedic Specialties in Birmingham, and a group of local orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons.
“This new outpatient surgery center is a positive step toward offering patients in the region expanded access to safe, high quality outpatient orthopedic and spine surgery,” says Todd Borst, manager of the center. “The center will also provide the added comfort and convenience of staying close to home.”
CSM Group of Kalamazoo is the construction firm for the project and estimates an 11-month timeframe. The structure will be about 17,800 square feet. The architectural firm PAE was selected to design the center’s interior.
“Orthopedic and spine procedures are transitioning to outpatient surgery centers on a national level,” says Dr. Mark Smith, chief medical officer for Henry Ford Allegiance Health. “These minimally invasive procedures result in faster recovery times and great outcomes for our patients.”
