Grand Traverse Pie Co., a Traverse City-based pie shop that makes its menu items from scratch every day using mostly local sources, has opened a new location in Rochester Hills.

“We felt that the food would be a good fit for (Rochester Hills) as well as for us to be able to turn around and be a part of the community,” says Margaret Alexander, director of marketing at Grand Traverse Pie Co.

At 5,000 square feet and 120 seats, the new location at 6920 N. Rochester Rd. offers breakfast options, fruit and cream pies, sandwiches, pot pies, quiche, pasties, wraps, soups, and salads that are made fresh every day from locally-sourced ingredients.

“Ninety-five percent of the products that we buy come from Michigan companies,” says Alexander. “Our flour is grown in Michigan, our sugar is from Michigan. The products that we buy, like turkey for making sandwiches, the boxes that we serve our pies in, (and) the boxes that we ship our pies in are made in Michigan.”

Grand Traverse Pie’s Rochester Hills location is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Alexander says the Rochester store is the company’s largest of its 16 locations in Michigan and Indiana, which include storefronts in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, East Lansing, Plymouth, and others.

The company is celebrating its 20-year anniversary in July, and has no plans to open any other locations, Alexander says .
