Grand Rapids Firm Launches New Color Software for App Developers

tNew software from Grand Rapids-based X-Rite Inc. will provide mobile app developers the ability to deliver more accurate color to their apps.

tUnlike laptop or desktop operating systems, iOS and Android operating systems do not have system wide color management capabilities, meaning each app must apply color profiles independently. By expanding X-Rite’s ColorTrue app — which allows photographers and designers to calibrate their mobile devices for accurate color matching — third-party app developers may now access color management tools via a new add-on.

t“With ColorTrue and the ColorTrue Aware partner program, X-Rite now offers the missing color management components on iOS and Android platforms,” says Steve Rankin, X-Rite’s product manager. “Our goal is to enable app developers and help create an eco-system of color managed apps.”

tThe company announced today that its first partner to use the ColorTrue Aware Software Developers Kit is CamRanger, with an anticipated end of April release. “CamRanger is a great wireless tethering solution that allows photographers to shoot directly to their mobile device — and now their users will be able to view their images color accurately,” Rankin says.

tThe ColorTrue Aware SDK is compatible with Apple iOS and Google Android platforms. To learn more, click here.
