GMS Inc. Acquires ASI Building Products, Strengthens Michigan Presence

2002

Georgia-based GMS Inc., a North American distributor of gypsum wallboard and suspended ceiling systems, today announced the acquisition of Southfield-based ASI Building Products. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The addition of ASI’s complementary geographic footprint and product offering will increase GMS’s existing service in the Michigan market, which now totals 16 locations statewide.

Founded in 1988, ASI is a provider of ceilings and other quality building products via locations in Southfield, Saginaw, and Detroit. The company distributes interior building products for residential and commercial projects of all sizes. ASI majority owner and industry veteran Dave Mayer and the entire ASI team will stay on with GMS moving forward.

“We are thrilled to welcome ASI Building Products to the GMS family,” says Mike Brown, vice president of GMS’ Midwest division. “The acquisition expands GMS’s already strong presence in Michigan with a well-rounded portfolio of high quality products and reinforces the company’s commitment to excellent customer service.”

GMS was founded in 1971 and operates a network of more than 200 distribution centers across the U.S. The company’s product offerings include: wallboard, suspended ceilings systems, and complementary interior construction materials.
