Detroit-based General Motors Co. unveiled its 2024 Hummer EV SUV in a commercial aired during the NCAA’s Final Four, which took place on Saturday.
The commercial was narrated by NBA star LeBron James and highlighted the SUV’s capability. The commercial can be viewed here.
“The new Hummer EV SUV is the next chapter, which will offer many options for customers to tailor the truck to their lifestyles while continuing to encourage them to forge new paths with zero emissions,” says Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick and GMC.
The super trucks will be driven by GM’s Ultium Platform and will launch with the Edition 1, which will offer customers the choice to equip the vehicle for optimal driving range or off-road capability. It comes standard with 22-inch premium wheels, assist steps, and floor liners.
The available Extreme Off-Road package adds 18-inch wheels and 35-inch-OD MT tires, underbody armor and rock sliders, front eLocker and virtual rear lockers, heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts, and UltraVision with underbody camera views. The vehicle offers up to 17 camera views.
The Hummer will offer features such as CrabWalk, which turns the rear wheels 10 degrees in either direction so the vehicle can drive diagonally at low speeds, and Extract Mode, which activates Adaptive Air Ride Suspension to raise the vehicle about 6 inches to go over obstacles. It has room for five passengers as well as a rear cargo area. The rear seats fold flat to increase space, offering up to 81.8 cubic feet of cargo space. There is also storage space under the load floor and another compartment in the side trim.
The vehicle’s 126.7-inch wheelbase give the SUV a turning circle of 35.4 feet with 4 Wheel Steer standard on 2X, 3X, and Edition 1.
The interior includes customizable, multisensory user features and an open driving experience with the standard Infinity Roof with removable Sky Panels, I-Bar, and rear drop glass.
GM worked with Perception, a creative agency that helped with design in the Marvel movies, to create an engaging in-cabin user experience. The Hummer also offers a Bose audio system, and the user experience is customizable through My Mode.
The vehicle is also equipped with trail mapping available in the redesigned myGMC app, as well as a new available Power Station generator, which enables users to use up to three kilowatts of power from the vehicle, turning it into a power source on the trail or a backup generator.
Owners will be able to use their smartphone as the key fob for the vehicle, which detects the owner’s phone and proximity to the vehicle, enabling passive operations such as approach lighting, entry unlock, and vehicle operation.
The Ultium drive system will offer up to 830 horsepower, and GM estimates up to 11,500 lb.-ft. torque, enough power to go from 0-60 mph in about 3.5 seconds. It will also offer a GM estimated 300-plus miles of range on Edition 1 with standard equipment.
The Ultium system will also allow the vehicle to channel power to single wheel, keeping the vehicle moving in tough driving conditions and terrain, including 13 inches of suspension travel, climbing 60 percent grades, scaling 18-inch verticals, and fording water more than 2 feet deep.
GM estimates there will be about 200 accessories available for the Hummer at launch.
All Hummer EV SUV models will feature the enhanced version of Super Cruise, an available driver-assistance technology offering hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of enabled roads and a new automatic lane changing feature, in which the system can determine when a lane change is optimal and initiate the maneuver, following signaling protocols.
Production will begin in early 2023, when the Hummer SUV Edition 1 will have a starting manufacturer suggested retail price of $105,595. When equipped with the available Extreme Off-Road Package, the starting price will be $110,595.
