Global Detroit, a local non-profit focused on immigrant job creation, today announced a summit of regional and civic business leaders on Thursday, April 6, from 2-5 p.m.
The summit’s panels will focus on current initiatives linking regional companies with immigrant talent to fulfill unmet talent needs, and how Detroit business’s access to Canada can be used as a competitive advantage in light of potential constrictions in U.S. immigration laws.
“We need welcoming policies and businesses to work together to ensure a prosperous future. Strong regional cooperation and local programs incorporating immigrant talent are critical economic drivers and opportunities that grow profits, create jobs, and raise regional prosperity,”
says Steve Tobocman, executive director of Global Detroit.
“The business community—here in Detroit and in Windsor—relies on immigrant talent and innovation to spur job growth and foster a robust economy, adds Tobocman. “It’s time for business owners to have a voice at the table in our current immigration debate.”
Panelists include Douglas George, Canadian consul general, Stephen MacKenzie, CEO of Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation, Rami Fakhoury, founder and managing partner of Fakhoury Global Immigration law firm, and several others. Brad Feld, co-founder of Techstars, will deliver the keynote via teleconference and Tobocman will offer opening and closing remarks. Attendees will have the chance to direct questions at the panelists.
The Champions for Growth Summit is co-sponsored by TechTown, Techstars, Venture for America-Michigan, and the Michigan Economic Center, in partnership with Global Detroit.
The summit takes place on the 19th floor of the Detroit Regional Chamber, located on 1 Woodward Ave. There is no cost to attend but registration is required. Tickets can be reserved here.
