The Otsego Club and Resort in Gaylord, a popular destination for metro Detroiters, is adding forward tees, new, larger 8-inch cups and offering FootGolf, a sport where players kick a soccer ball into a cup, to appeal to more families this summer.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to introduce the game of golf to more young people and new players through this initiative,” says Mark Hogan, director of golf at the Otsego Club. "With the industry struggling with participation and developing new players, we wanted to create an opportunity at Otsego Club that would make the game fun and attractive for kids, families, and potential new players."

Hogan says the Classic course will feature traditional cups along with the larger cups on every green. Three holes will be used for FootGolf. The club also offers the 18-hole Tribute course. In addition, the club will be featuring a youth golf academy as well as a women’s camp this summer.

The Youth Academy will run from June 22-25. The women's camp runs from July 6-8. Both camps feature instruction by Michigan PGA gold professionals and overnight and day camp options.

Hogan says the club has also partnered with King Par Superstore, a golf equipment store, to expand the club’s retail offerings.

Throughout the summer, the club also will offer equipment fittings, along with golf clubs and equipment. In addition to two public golf courses, the resort offers 117 lodge rooms, suites, condominiums, 24,000 square feet of meeting space, and two restaurants — Duck Blind Grille and The Pontresina.
