Nearly 100 people have registered for a chance to rappel down the side of the First National Building this spring in downtown Detroit as part of a fundraising event to support the Detroit2Nepal Foundation.
Heidi Hedquist, of Hack into the Cause, who is organizing the event, says the event will help raise money for education projects and health initiatives for Nepal’s remote villages as well as for funding local initiatives in Detroit.
“This year, the half that’s going to stay here (in Detroit) is going to go to the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP). They do STEM programs for kids in Detroit, which also makes sense for Over the Edge because (the event involves) physics, architecture, and engineering,” Hedquist says.
Participants must raise at least $1,000 for the opportunity to rappel down the side of the First National Building, 660 Woodward Ave., owned by Bedrock Real Estate. Bedrock and Quicken Loans are sponsors of the event.
Hedquist says for those who don’t want to rappel down the building but are interested in getting involved, there will be a variety of festivities that take place on ground level, including a VIP area with food and an open bar for those who raise funds.
