Popbar, the maker of customizable popGelato, popSorbetto, and popYogurts, today announced it has signed a new multi-unit franchising agreement with Joseph McCain of A Legacy Group to bring the franchise system to metro Detroit.

Serving all-natural frozen treats, Popbar, founded in New York City in 2010, offers gelato, sorbet, and frozen yogurt on a stick produced in-house daily. Michigan is the ninth state for expansion.

The first Popbar location in Detroit is set to break ground this year, with the rest to follow shortly thereafter. The specific locations and timing will be announced soon.

The menu includes more than 80 rotating flavors ranging from classics (chocolate or vanilla) to the more unique (piña colada or mud pie), and seasonal flavors like watermelon or pumpkin pie.

There’s also a variety of premium chocolate dippings and toppings like nuts, cookie crumbs, and sprinkles. Popbar also offers vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, or soy-free options.

In addition to frozen desserts, there’s seasonal drinks like gelato shakes, lemonades, and hot chocolate.

“From the creatively curated recipes to the carefully sourced ingredients, we were truly impressed by Popbar’s quality”, says McCain. “We can’t wait to make these premium Italian desserts a hometown favorite with kids and adults alike.”

Popbar states it is dedicated to preserving an authentic and intimate ‘mom and pop’ atmosphere at every location.

“We choose to grow at a measured pace by hand-selecting franchisees to maintain our core values – superior quality, in-house production, authenticity, and family-friendly fun,” says Reuben BenJehuda, founder of Popbar. “And we’re happy to enter the Detroit market.”

There are 15 Popbar stores open in California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Louisiana, and Texas, as well as international locations in Canada and Portugal.
