Grand Rapids-based Founders Brewing Co. today announced it will open a new 14,000-square-foot taproom with a fully operational brewery in Midtown Detroit. The building is located at 456 Charlotte St. and construction will begin this summer, with a grand opening scheduled for the end of this year.

Founded in Grand Rapids in 1997, Founders has an extensive menu that includes French bread pizza, soups, salads like tree hugger and caprese, and an array of sandwiches including Founders Cheesesteak, Detroit Ham and Cheese, The Glutton, Louis A. Cornelius, Devil Dancer, Brassworks BLT, and more.

Beer selections include All Day IPA, Dirty Bastard, Founders Porter, Red’s Rye IPA, along with numerous seasonal, special, barrel-aged series, and more. The brewery also offers a store featuring an array of apparel, gifts, adventure gear, and glassware.

“Having been born and raised in the metro area, Detroit has long held a special place in my heart,” says Mark Dorich, Founders’ vice president of retail operations. “It’s a hard working, no-nonsense, culturally diverse, and musically-inspired town, which happens to have the best sports teams in the country.

“Some of our strongest support has come from the east side of Michigan, and we could not think of a better place to expand our taproom experience. We anticipate creating a taproom that is inspired by what we do in Grand Rapids, but unique in its own Motown way.”

Founders plans to staff the facility primarily with Detroit-area employees to contribute to local job growth and economic revitalization. Hiring will begin this summer.

Founders has partnered with Midtown Detroit Inc. and Invest Detroit on the development of the property. Details of the project will be released as they become available, and updates can be found here.
