Salon Plaza, a franchise for independent cosmetologists, has signed an agreement with former Detroit Pistons point guard and five-time NBA All-Star Chauncey Billups to open a location in Southfield.
The franchise provides business ownership opportunities to beauty and health professionals. This is the first location in Michigan and includes suites for independent hairstylists, locticians (who specialize in dreadlocks), nail technicians, and estheticians.
The professionals, or members, will be provided with support in local and national marketing, business operations, suite and building maintenance, business development, and more.
“We rise by lifting others up, and that’s exactly what we’re doing with Salon Plaza,” says Billups. “There’s an increasing number of spirited cosmologists with a boss mentality that deserve prosperity but, like every entrepreneur, they need people to invest time and resources into their business. We’re thrilled to support their entrepreneurial dreams, and there’s no better community to start in than Detroit.”
Billups and his wife, Piper Billups, are working to grow the brand’s footprint. Billups is looking to break into the salon sector. He owns and operates more than 30 Wendy’s locations in the greater St. Louis market. He also appears on ESPN as an NBA analyst.
“Chauncey and Piper have an incredible vision for Salon Plaza, and we’re honored to welcome them on board as franchise partners,” says Ken McAllister, CEO and president of Suite Management Franchising, the franchise arm of Salon Plaza. “We’re expanding our business with successful, well-capitalized teams that have strong operating credentials, and the Billups’ partnership is an awesome way to kick start our momentum nationwide. Their level of commitment and passion for the salon industry will surely open up opportunities for like-minded go-getters for years to come.”
Located at 29703 Southfield Road, a grand opening for the space is scheduled for Aug. 12 and will include appearances from the Billups as well as entertainment.
Salon Plaza is part of Ratner Cos., a collection of family-owned and operated hair salons in the U.S., operating nearly 1,000 salons in 16 states. Since 1936, Ratner and its predecessors have completed more than $15 billion in sales, employed more than 100,000 licensed stylists, and are approaching 1,000 operating locations. In addition to Salon Plaza, its brands include Hair Cuttery, Bubbles, Salon Cielo, and Spa and Colorworks.
