Dearborn-based automaker Ford Motor Co. is helping drivers and passengers entertain themselves on the road, including options to stream music and television into its newest SUVs. Experts at Ford say these new features are the result of “shifting trends towards streaming services for television, music, movies, podcasts, and more.”
“Increasingly, our on-the-go customers are streaming music and television to their personal devices,” says Michael O’Brien, Ford SUV group marketing manager. “We’re meeting this demand in our biggest and smallest SUVs.”
In the all-new Expedition, available this fall, an available Wi-Fi hotspot supports up to 10 devices at once, and up to 50 feet from the vehicle. An available dual-headrest rear seat entertainment system allows passengers to watch live television via SlingPlayer, which connects to the user’s Slingbox account on their home television. This is the first time SlingPlayer has been available in an automobile.
In the Expedition and the all-new EcoSport, available in early 2018, Ford also offers stream friendly technology including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, SiriusXM radio, an eight-inch touchscreen, and USB ports and power outlets that allow customers to connect and charge their many devices and listen to or watch content at their leisure.
