Flint-based Diplomat, the nation’s largest independent specialty pharmacy, announced today that it has acquired MedPro Rx, a specialty pharmacy in Raleigh, N.C. that focuses on specialty infusion therapies.

“MedPro Rx shares our focus on caring for patients through personalized, high-touch service and communication,” says Phil Hagerman, Diplomat’s CEO. “We acquired MedPro to expand our existing specialty infusion business and to increase our presence in the mid-Atlantic and Southern regions of the country.”

Ron McFarlane, MedPro Rx’s COO, says the partnership with Diplomat will expand the firm’s role as a provider of high-touch specialized pharmacy and infusion services.

“At MedPro Rx, we pride ourselves on setting the standard for specialty infusion care, (and) incorporating personal interaction with the latest technology to provide a responsive, hassle-free experience for our patients,” McFarlane says. “Diplomat shares that vision and puts it into practice in each interaction with their own patients.”

Earlier this month, Diplomat — which focuses on medication management programs for people with specialized, long-term medical needs — filed for an IPO with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. According to paperwork filed with the SEC, the company had revenue of $1.5 billion last year, up from $377 million in 2009.
