tWally Mona has big plans for 2014, and they start with the opening of Michigan’s first Woody’s Bar-B-Q restaurant in Sterling Heights. After that, Mona, the franchisor for the state, and his business partner Marc Beginin plan to open three additional locations in downtown Detroit, Wixom, and Southfield within the next six months.
t“What first drew me to Woody’s was the incredible flavor of the food,” says Mona, who also owns the Macomb Music Theatre and three Ultimate Sports Bar locations in metro Detroit.
tThe Sterling Heights Woody’s will open Jan. 13 at 13100 Hall Rd., west of Schoenherr Road, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for Jan. 24-26. The restaurant will serve Southern barbecue and comfort food, including baby back ribs, Carolina pulled pork, and Texas beef brisket.
tIn addition to the anticipated sites in metro Detroit, Mona and Beginin are also in discussions with potential franchisees to expand both Woody’s Bar-B-Q Express and Woody’s traditional sit-down concepts throughout the state. The company is based in Jacksonville, Fla.
tFollowing its Jan. 13 opening, Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Sterling Heights will be open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight for full-service dining, takeout orders with curbside delivery, and catering. Woody’s will also partner with a local school each week, when on a select evening, the restaurant will donate 10 percent of its proceeds to the participating school.
