The Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair in Novi will open Labor Day weekend with two new horse show arenas, an expanded carnival, additional attractions including a test drive experience, along with increased parking and seating areas.
“We have acquired about 43 additional acres since the inaugural fair in 2013 to keep pace with the rapid growth of the fair, and to ensure that we have ample room for additional features and parking,” says Blair Bowman, proprietor of the Suburban Collection Showplace, where the fair is held. “This means we have grown the Showplace and fairgrounds property by nearly 80 percent over the past two years.”
Bowman says there will be additional amusement park rides at this year’s fair. The circus performances will be held outside, which allows for more interior space inside the Suburban Collection Showplace for livestock breeds, youth shows, and cooking competitions.
He says the test drive experience will feature rides with a performance driver in Dodge Ram trucks through an obstacle course that includes rocks, logs, and bumps.
The Michigan kitchen demo show will return, featuring demonstrations by popular Detroit area chefs, along with musical performances featuring a house band of Detroit musicians and guest vocalists.
“We look forward to seeing all of our guests over the holiday weekend and especially at our new State Fair parade on Sept. 7,” says Craig Stigleman, chairman of the Shrine Circus. “We’ll offer … the Motor
Corp conducting precision motorcycle drills, and the always popular Highlanders Bagpipe and Drum Corp.”
The Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair will be held Sept. 4-7. Tickets cost $8 for fair entrance, and $23 for ride or circus entrance. For more information, visit MichiganStateFairllc.com.
