Auburn Hills-based FEV North America, Inc., an international powertrain and vehicle engineering company, has acquired a 51 percent stake in TrigTec, a Redford Township-based automation and testing products maker. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition provides FEV North America with additional capabilities for in-process testing, which company officials say complements its portfolio of testing operations offered by its Testing Solutions division. TrigTec also gains access to FEV North America’s global footprint.

“By adding TrigTec’s capabilities under the FEV brand, we are able to extend that brand further into the production process,” says Patrick Hupperich, president and CEO of FEV North America. “TrigTec’s proven production resources coupled with its seasoned engineering resources and established customer relationships will help FEV extend its product offerings to both TrigTec and FEV customers.”

He says the terms of the deal would allow FEV to expand its future ownership share up to full ownership.

The TrigTec team, founded more than 25 years ago, provides engineering, design, and manufacturing services to industrial manufacturing customers. In addition to engineering, its capabilities include fabrication, machining, and the integration of components.

FEV North America designs, develops, and prototypes advanced vehicle/powertrain electronic control systems and hybrid-electric engine concepts for future emission and fuel economy standards. The company is a division of FEV Group in Germany, and employees a staff of more than 450 people.
