Auburn Hills-based FCA US LLC has unveiled an all-new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider roadster, nearly 50 years after its original introduction, along with the debut of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, a mid-size sedan that delivers more than 500 horsepower, at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider, available in the summer of 2016, has a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 160 horsepower and more than 180 pounds per feet of torque.
“There’s no better way to celebrate 50 years of the Fiat 124 Spider than to bring back this iconic roadster, pairing its Italian styling of the past with all of the modern performance and technology of today,” says Olivier François, head of the Fiat Brand for FCA – G Global.
François says noise vibration and harshness enhancements, including an acoustic front windshield and insulation treatments, help to deliver a quiet ride. He says the vehicle’s soft convertible top is easy to operate.
The roadster comes with safety features such as adaptive front headlamps, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear backup camera. Technology features include a seven-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, and keyless entry.
The vehicle was designed with a low-slung presence, a hexagonal upper grille and grille pattern, and a sporty cabin-to-hood ratio, and comes in red, white, black, gray, dark gray, and bronze.
2017 Giulia Quadrifoglio
The 2017 Giulia Quadrifoglio, meanwhile, is the first of a new lineup of vehicles built off a rear-wheel-drive platform.
“The all-new Giulia is not just a new car, but an entirely new benchmark that represents the next chapter in Alfa Romeo’s rich 105-year heritage,” says Reid Bigland, head of Alfa Romeo Brand for FCA – North America. “With an all-new lightweight platform and class-leading power and handling, the all-new Giulia delivers on the pedigree of incredible technology, race-inspired performance, and Italian design and style.”
The Quadrifoglio comes equipped with a bi-turbo V6 engine that can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds, along with short overhangs, a long hood, and front fender proportions, plus a passenger compartment straddled between the rear fender forms to deliver a “settled” look over 19-inch wheels.
The car has a leather interior and a nearly nine-inch widescreen display, and comes in red, black, gray, blue, and white.
The 2017 Quadrifoglio begins production in the second quarter of 2016 with a suggested retail price of about $70,000.
IN RELATED FCA NEWS, Fiat unveiled two special custom-designed vehicles at the Los Angeles Auto Show, including a Star Wars-themed Fiat 500e and a Fiat 500x inspired by the fashion designed Diane von Furstenburg.
The exterior of the Fiat 500e stormtrooper, inspired by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has a two-tone black and white custom painting. The interior of the vehicle is black and white, too, with a white dashboard and a Star Wars logo.
The Diane von Furstenburg-inspired Fiat 500x is wrapped in one of her heritage prints.
