MPS Group, a waste management company based in Farmington Hills and Detroit, has acquired the assets of Carlisle, Ohio-based Superior Mill Services and the services component of Franklin, Ohio-based Patriot Machining and Maintenance Services. The cost of the acquisition was not disclosed.

The Ohio companies, which handle industrial cleaning and decontamination, along with the ongoing maintenance of heavy industrial equipment, respectively, count AK Steel, which has seven steel plants and two tube manufacturing plants in the U.S., among their primary clients.

“By combining these two very successful companies with the MPS organization, we greatly enhance our ability to service existing customers and expand our … customer base in southern Ohio,” says Ed Schwartz, president and CEO of MPS. “By acquiring companies with complementary capabilities, we are able to improve the level of service our customers have grown to expect.”

The acquisition will also boost each company’s ability to service customers while maintaining or adding employees, adds Charlie Williams, who co-owns MPS with Anthony Soave.

“The demonstrated success of the management team at MPS gave us the utmost confidence to pursue this purchase,” Williams says. “This is the type of growth business and strategy that we consider a high-priority investment,” Soave says. “We thrive on the potential of these types of opportunities.”

Schwartz anticipates a seamless transition in terms of everyday business. “Our primary goal with this acquisition, as it is with everything we do, is to exceed customer performance expectations and continue to raise the bar,” he says.

Founded in 1995, MPS Group is a privately held, certified minority business enterprise that provides waste management and facilities services to customers in the automotive, health care, and utility industries.
