Farmington Hills-based Electro-Matic Products Inc. is teaming up with Kingsun Optoelectronic Co., a commercial and industrial lighting solutions firm in China, as part of a joint venture to improve the efficiency and reliability of its LED fixtures.

Under the agreement, Electro-Matic will utilize Kingsun’s optoelectronics technology, which allows incremental control of the lighting technology in a variety of outdoor and indoor commercial lighting and display applications.

“Kingsun has the best optoelectronics in the business,” says David Scaglione, a spokesman for Electro-Matic. He says Kingsun will develop and manufacture the optoelectronics, or optics, while final assembly will take place at Electro-Matric’s plant in Farmington Hills.

“American manufacturing is back,” says Rich Laramee, president of Electro-Matic. “It’s being fueled by automated assembly, advanced control systems, and energy efficient technologies. And we’re in the middle of it.”

According to Samuel Soon, Kingsun’s vice president, the company — which has 2,000 employees at its 3 million-square-foot plant in Dongguan, Guangdong Province — plans to build up local manufacturing bases around the world to better serve local enterprises and governments.

“We are very pleased to have Electro-Matic Products as our joint venture manufacturing and marketing partner in the USA,” Soon says. “Their knowledge of the LED lighting market and superior manufacturing facilities makes this a model partnership.”
