Farmington Hills-based private equity firm Beringea has led a $5 million investment round in Traverse City’s Atlas Space Operations Inc., a provider of mission-critical unified satellite communications services. The capital will be used to further advance Atlas’ engineering efforts in the enhancement of its software platform and the development of new products.
Atlas’ global network of satellite communications ground stations and its cloud-based command and control system benefits the current outdated and limited satellite grounds communications infrastructure by simplifying the communications services enabling businesses to gather information from the satellite to antenna and then to the customer in a streamlined process, according to the company. The network offers secure and automated access to data to and from space.
“Atlas is honored to be part of the Beringea portfolio,” says Sean McDaniel, co-founder and CEO of Atlas. “Atlas is rapidly expanding its global ground network to provide simple and scalable ground communication solutions to the growing satellite telecommunications and data market. This investment allows the company to advance our revolutionary Freedom software platform to virtualize and automate the access to hundreds of ground nodes on a global scale. We are excited to be partnered with Beringea as we position the company for entry in new markets.”
William Blake, vice president at Beringea, says, “As data traffic from space increases, we believe that Atlas’ software-focused solution provides the secure streamlined data access that the current infrastructure cannot provide and that customers need. We are confident that Atlas’ remarkable management team and extensive experience will continue to propel the company forward.”
