A new partnership between the Detroit Red Wings and Boston-based DraftKings provides fans with the opportunity to win tickets, meet and greet players, and snag Zamboni rides by creating and competing with nine-member fantasy teams.

“Our partnership with DraftKings gives our fans a great opportunity to experience the excitement of fantasy sports on a daily basis and win tremendous Red Wings prizes in the process,” says Rob Croll, director of corporate partnerships for the Red Wings.

Fans can access free, daily fantasy hockey contests on DraftKings.com through the Red Wings social media channels on select dates throughout the season. Participants will then be able to select their National Hockey League fantasy roster for the chance to win exclusive prizes.

“Interest in daily fantasy sports is at an all-time high, and professional teams like the Red Wings truly understand the power of the contests when it comes to engaging their fan bases,” said Paul Liberman, co-founder and COO for DraftKings. “We’re looking forward to helping Red Wings fans enjoy a new way to leverage their knowledge of the team and the league to compete for real world prizes.”

IN RELATED NEWS, Olympia Entertainment and the Detroit Red Wings this week announced the launch of free high-speed public Wi-Fi at Joe Louis Arena to improve reliability when sending and receiving phone calls and text messages, provide faster uploads to social media and enhance fan engagement when attending Red Wings games and Olympia Entertainment sporting and entertainment events at The Joe.

In partnership with SignalShare, a provider of mobile engagement solutions for mass audiences, and Extreme Networks Inc., a source in high performance networking, the Red Wings will officially unveil the new Wi-Fi system for fans at Joe Louis Arena when the team returns home from a two-game road trip on Saturday to face the New York Islanders.

To access the Wi-Fi inside The Joe, guests will simply need to select “#JLAwifi” in their smartphones. An opt-in page will then appear, requiring the user to accept the “Terms and Conditions” and input their name, an active email address and ZIP code. Users will then be connected to the Wi-Fi and simultaneously directed to a portal page.

“Since our testing period began in December, we’ve had more than 25,000 Red Wings fans log on to the new Wi-Fi network and the response has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Tod Caflisch, director of Information Technology for the Red Wings. “We look forward to seeing those numbers increase during the stretch of the season as fans become more aware of the technology available when they visit The Joe.”

The Red Wings Foundation will also host its Taste of Hockeytown on Monday. Each year, the foundation hosts a wine tasting benefit on the covered ice surface at the Joe. The exclusive event offers fans the chance to mingle with the entire Red Wings team, alumni, and other local celebrities, while listening to great music and enjoying delectable foods and desserts. The event features over 70 different wines from Italy, Spain, France, California and Michigan.
