EW Grobbel, a meat processing and food company established in Detroit in 1883, announced it will open a new fresh market and deli restaurant concept in Eastern Market this year.

Located at 2456 Market St., the concept will consist of Gorbbel’s Gourmet Fresh Neighborhood Market and a Sy Ginsberg’s branded Jewish-style deli restaurant to make high-quality foods accessible to local residents.

“We are very excited to bring this new food oasis to 2456 Market Street where we can make high- quality food accessible to people right where they live, work and play,” says Jason Grobbel, president at EW Grobbel. “The Grobbel team is committed to our hometown (and) the City of Detroit by serving its residents and visitors with the best possible food offerings and experiences they could receive.”

The new businesses will neighbor some district mainstays — with the grocery store entrance on Market Street next to DeVries and Co., while the deli entrance on Riopelle Street will be next to Eastern Market Brewing Co. and Detroit City Distillery.

The company will partner with urban farmers and other local farms to bring fresh food and produce to the neighborhood market. It will feature offerings from Topor’s Pickles, Corridor Sausage, Grobbel’s Gourmet smoked meats, and a full line of sliced, prepackaged deli products.

In addition, the store will sell items common to grocery stores such as bread, seafood, and grab-and-go ingredients. Roughly 70 percent of the company’s team members are Detroit residents.

For the expansion, Studio H2G is the project designer and Studio Detroit is the project architect. Grobbel and FIRM Real Estate teamed up for the project, with both partners having an equal part in ownership of the real estate.
