Area Star Wars fans will get a chance to see “Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker” on the largest CinemaScope screen in the Midwest when Troy-based Emagine Entertainment Inc. completes the expansion of its theater complex at 39535 Ford Rd. in Canton Township in December.

Upon completion, Emagine Canton will have more than 90,000 square feet under one roof, span two communities (Westland and Canton Township) and feature 20 screens. One of those 20 screens will be a 94-foot-wide Emagine Super EMAX screen with a 4K laser-projected image that will be paired with a Dolby Atmos immersive sound system.

“While some competitors are closing and others struggle to play catch-up, Emagine remains firmly committed to providing its guests with the finest moviegoing experience possible,” says Paul Glantz, chairman of Emagine Entertainment. “We are resolved to continually enhance the quality of the theatrical experience. Nothing beats watching a blockbuster film on a 94-foot screen from the comfort of a heated reclining chair.”

Emagine is timing the grand opening of the expanded complex to coincide with the Dec. 20 premiere of the J.S. Abrams-directed ninth and final film of the original Star Wars saga that pits the Resistance against the First Order and the Jedi against the Sith for the final time.

In addition to the premium large format Super EMAX screen, the 14,000-square-foot expansion also incorporates a new 24-seat screening room and accompanying party space. This feature, the company says, is well suited to private event viewings and children’s birthday parties, and has been popular at other Emagine venues.

“We have personalized the movie-going experience like never before with private screening room opportunities allowing guests the ability to control volume, sounds, lights, and even pause or rewind films,” says Anthony LaVerde, CEO of Emagine Entertainment. “With the addition of an even larger Super EMAX in southeast Michigan, our guests will enjoy a viewing experience like no other.”

With the addition of the two new screens at the Canton/Westland location, Emagine affiliates will operate 253 movie screens at 20 locations in four states.
