February’s Winter Blast at Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit will feature a snow slide down Michigan Avenue, a zip line, and a food tent with restaurants such as La Dolce Vita and El Barzon.

“Much like Detroit’s rejuvenation, we’re experiencing a rise in both interest and activities, as demonstrated by the return of Meridian Snow Slide and Bedrock Zip Line Adventure, as well as the all new ‘Taste of Detroit’ Food Tent,” says Jonathan Witz, producer of the Winter Blast.

Witz says the 2016 Winter Blast, which runs from Feb. 12-14, will feature a 200-foot snow slide, a 300-foot zip line along Woodward Avenue, and a food tent with restaurants such as Red Crown, Revolver, Slow’s To Go, El Asador, Hudson Café, and Andiamo Italia, among others.

Detroit-based Meridian Health Plan has extended its title sponsorship for two more years, through the 2018 festival. The 2016 festival marks Meridian’s fourth year as the title sponsor of the Winter Blast.

Detroit-based Quicken Loans has also returned for its fourth year as the presenting sponsor of the event.

The Winter Blast will host a day of activities for the nonprofit Big Brother Big Sisters, offering free admission and rides. New to the 2016 festival are giveaways including 20 regional tourism packages from the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Founded in 2005, the Winter Blast debuted as a backdrop to the Super Bowl XL in Detroit and attracted more than 200,000 people.

More information about the festival will be announced next month.
