Texas-based Dickey’s Barbecue Pit on Thursday will open its fourth Michigan location at 44741 Five Mile Rd., next to Busch’s Supermarket, in Plymouth Township.

“There’s no barbecue restaurants in this area,” says Adam Wilson, owner of the new restaurant. “There’s a lot of lunchtime traffic, too, so we though it was the perfect fit for us.”

The restaurant is fast casual where people “move with the food,” similar to Subway or Qdoba, Wilson says.

Elsewhere in metro Detroit, Michigan’s first Woody’s Bar-B-Q restaurant opened in Sterling Heights earlier this year, with plans to open additional locations in downtown Detroit, Wixom, and Southfield within the next six months.

In addition, former Detroit Lions running back Billy Sims plans to open a Billy Sims BBQ in Royal Oak. Already, the former speedster operates restaurants in Troy, Southfield, and Lincoln Park.

Dickey’s will celebrate its opening with a three days of giveaways. On Thursday, the first 50 customers will receive a gift card worth up to $50. On Friday, select customers will receive free drinks along with other Dickey’s merchandise. And on Saturday, the restaurant will give away a year’s supply of free barbecue as well as a $500 gift card.

Other specials at the store include free ice cream everyday as well as a kids-eat-free offer on Sundays. Regular menu items include pit-smoked meats, potato salad, and pecan pie.

“For now, our focus will be on the Plymouth location,” Wilson says. “But if everything goes as planned, I would like to open more locations.”
