Minnesota’s DexaFit, which offers body composition, cardiovascular fitness, and metabolic health testing, has opened its first Michigan location in Madison Heights.

DexaFit is considering three or four additional locations in southeast Michigan, as well as locations in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, and Toledo.

The location is at 29235 Stephenson Highway, Suite 200 and will offer health screenings designed to customize, guide, and engage customers in their personal health journeys. It is also designed to show customers early risk factors to their health.

An app will also be available and offer customized analysis and health insights, as well as track tests, milestones, performance, and training recommendations.

Customers will be able to measure body composition, including muscle mass and bone density, quantify visceral fat, or fat around the organs, and learn their hydrostatic weight.

They also will have access to metabolic stress testing for VO2max, which measures oxygen consumption and efficiency. VO2max reflects the maximum amount of oxygen a body can use, as well as a target heart rate, to optimize its efficiency to burn fat. The test will also provide an analysis of how many calories customers burn at rest.

The resting metabolic rate testing will allow customers to see how efficient their bodies are at converting food to energy and discover whether they burn primarily sugar or fat for fuel. It also measures oxygen consumption and assesses metabolism by calculating a measurement of calories burned at rest. The test can reveal whether customers have slow metabolisms, helping them understand attempts to lose weight.

Finally, DexaFit offers 3-D body scanning, which extracts more than 400 different measurements from the surface of the body. It will also offer blood panels, microbiome, and genetic screenings.

There are currently 25 DexaFit locations with an additional five set to open later this year, including in Singapore and Hong Kong. The company expects to have 50-60 locations in the U.S. and six-eight globally by the end of 2020.
