Detroit football equipment manufacturer Xenith has introduced the Xenith Shadow XR, a football helmet designed for NFL, collegiate, and high school players. Xenith collaborated with Rheon to create energy cells that relieve and reinforce protection against impacts. Rheon cells and integrated Rheon jaw pads are used to provide optimal comfort on the head.

Xenith Shadow XR also offers a titanium facemask and a polymer shell that is 10 percent lighter than traditional shell materials. Large vents are on the front and back of the helmet, which allows cool air to flow over the head and for hot air to escape.

“The innovation in Xenith Shadow XR is our single greatest leap forward since the development of our adaptive fit technology,” says Grant C. Goulet, vice president of product innovation at Xenith. “Through the collaboration with Rheon Labs and implementation of their patented material science, we were able to design and engineer an entirely new helmet solution.

“The Xenith Shadow XR system optimally controls energy from the handful of severe impacts an athlete might experience in a career, to the hundreds, potentially thousands, of lower-level hits they’ll experience in a season. We worked hard to get this superior energy control in a low-profile and balanced helmet, allowing athletes to perform at their best on the field.”

Rheon’s energy control cell is designed to cushion low-speed impacts and also protect against high-speed impacts. The cells were designed to compress and shear to control energy from a range of impact types. Rheon uses 3-D printing to engineer the molds for its products.

The Xenith Shadow XR helmet is also waterproof and washable. All Xenith helmets use the company’s Adaptive Fit technology, so players have a custom fit for their helmets.

All Xenith helmets are five-star rated under the widely accepted Virginia Tech Helmet Ratings System and score in the top-performing group of the NFL Helmet Laboratory Testing Performance Results.

Xenith Shadow XR is expected to be available in the spring and will sell for $679 with the titanium mask. Team pricing is also available. For more information, click here.
