Hoping to chart a new path, the Reveal Beauty and Trend Industry Showcase, to be held May 14 at the Fillmore Detroit, aims to highlight the beauty, fashion, and entertainment industries that are advancing in Detroit and Michigan.
“This event is more art installation (based),” says Leslie Ann Pilling, the event’s CEO and founder. “For instance, there will be live models standing on pedestals showcasing 3-D hair sculptures by Antonino Salon and Spa (in Birmingham). There’s also the band FlashClash, who were just in Las Vegas on stage with John Legend — they’re all about the makeup and the fashion.”
Pilling says she first launched the event in 2011 to highlight innovative beauty-related products and services in both Detroit and across the state. “There are so many talented people here, and I don’t think that’s highlighted to the level it should be,” she says.
She cites Hair Lab Detroit, which is “nationally renowned for education.” At next week’s event, staff from the school will collaborate with the Academy of Russian Classical Ballet to design hair sculptures, “that move as the ballet dancers move.”
Area clothing lines, such as Negash, will also be on hand as the beauty and fashion industries go hand-in-hand, Pilling says. “Whether you’re behind the scenes or at the front of the house, everyone is looking at everyone’s face, the makeup, the skin products, etc.”
Other businesses and professionals participating in the event include PF Galleries, Fleurdetroit, Workshop, and a cappella soloist Elizabeth McBryde.
