The Detroit Red Wings today announced the launch of a free app that will provide fans with access to videos of game highlights, player and coach interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage.
“This partnership with DeskSite continues our efforts to give Red Wings fans easy access to content to stay updated with news surrounding the team and never miss a moment of Red Wings action,” says Tom Wilson, president and CEO of Olympia Entertainment, part of Ilitch Holdings Inc. that is owned by team owners Mike and Marian Ilitch.
“DeskSite brings all the fantastic content available on DetroitRedWings.com to one centralized location, making it extremely convenient and user-friendly,” Wilson adds.
The new app acts as a “DVR for the Internet,” and automatically downloads videos to customers’ devices. The app allows fans to watch videos without an Internet connection, so the videos will not buffer or freeze. The app provides instant access to the high-definition videos, including postgame recaps and interviews.
Other sports teams that use DeskSite, a privately held digital media company based in Orange County, Calif., include the Detroit Lions, the Chicago Bears, and the San Francisco 49ers, among others.
