Detroit Pistons Seeking Artwork by Locals for New Performance Center

The Detroit Pistons are seeking submissions from local artists to display at the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center, the new team headquarters and practice facility that is scheduled to open in the fall.

The Detroit Pistons are seeking submissions from local artists to display at the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center, the new team headquarters and practice facility that is scheduled to open in the fall.

The organization is looking for museum-quality art for the center that is representative of metro Detroit. The complex is located along Second Avenue and Amsterdam Street. (northwest corner). A Plum Market also is planned for the facility.

“Detroit has a rich history of public art and currently boasts a vibrant and active art scene,” says Arn Tellem, vice chairman of the Pistons. “Tom and Holly Gores want to give local artists an opportunity to engage with our new performance center and strengthen the cultural connections between our organization, the city, and the region.”

Local artists and muralists of all levels and experience can submit existing work samples that explore themes including basketball, the history and culture of Detroit and Michigan, fan excitement, community activity, and more. Paintings, drawings, mixed media, photography, sculptures, murals, and digital and graphic arts can be submitted.

Those interested can email a portfolio of up to five JPEGs, an artist statement, and a resume including contact information to DetroitPistonsArt@pistons.com. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Monday, April 22. Email attachments must not exceed 10 MB. Only portfolios received via email will be considered.

Upon selection, artists will be notified and commissioned for specific works that will start this summer. All artists will be paid for their work and promoted by the Pistons through traditional and social media.

Submission finalists will be notified by Friday, May 10.
