Detroit Country Day School, a Pre-K to 12 independent school in Beverly Hills, has started a significant overhaul of Shaw Stadium with a new turf, track, lighting, seating, a digital scoreboard, landscaping, and a grand pedestrian entrance.

Funded by school donors — the cost of the project was not provided — the renovation is being overseen by Rockford Construction and is expected to be completed in time for the opening of the 2026-27 school year.

“Shaw Stadium holds a special place in the hearts of generations of Yellowjackets — and this transformation will ensure it continues to inspire all who follow,” says Rich Dempsey, head of school at DCDS.

Shaw Stadium was originally built by a group of donors and named in honor of the school’s first headmaster, F. Alden Shaw.

The project reflects Detroit Country Day’s long standing commitment to the principle of mens sana in corpore sano — a sound mind in a sound body.

Evan Weiner, parent to three alumni and grandparent to six DCDS students, was the lead donor to the Shaw Stadium historic renovation.

“Knowing that these children are going to receive a great education, that they are in a safe place, and that they are getting values and commitment from the teachers and staff — that tells me these kids are going to lead with confidence, with commitment, and with belief in themselves,” says Weiner. “They are going to like what they see in the mirror. And that is so critical. They will go off and do great things, and it wouldn’t happen without the people of this school.”
