A yellow Velocity Corvette Z06 and a special Midnight Edition Silverado will sit atop the Chevrolet Fountain behind centerfield in Comerica Park for the Detroit Tigers’ Opening Day on Monday.
“As the official vehicle of Major League Baseball, what better way could Chevrolet show our love of the game than by giving our vehicles a bird’s eye view of our hometown team,” says Paul Edwards, vice president of Chevrolet marketing.
A crane lifted the vehicles onto the fountain today, a three-hour long process. Detroit-based Chevrolet has sponsored the fountain for the last six seasons, and chooses select vehicles to display each year.
The Detroit Tigers will play the Minnesota Twins starting at 1:08 p.m. The Motown group the Four Tops will sing the national anthem, and actor J.K. Simmons, a Detroit native, will throw the ceremonial first pitch.
