Atwell, a Southfield-based consulting, engineering, and construction services firm, has made an equity investment in Texas-based design firm RVi Planning and Landscape Architecture. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

As part of the investment, Golden Associates, a landscape architecture, urban design, and planning firm that Atwell acquired last spring, will become part of and be managed by RVi’s operations.

Company officials say the investment allows Atwell the opportunity to offer clients additional planning and landscape architectural design services.

“We chose to invest in RVi because we respect what their leadership has built over the past three and a half decades,” says Brian R. Wenzel, president and CEO of Atwell. “They are a very well-managed company, and together, we are poised to achieve even greater success on a national scale.”

RVi operates offices in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. The company’s name and existing leadership team will remain in place.

The firm, which provides planning and landscape architecture services for master planned communities, commercial developments, parks and open space, academic campuses, and more, has worked on the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and multiple projects on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, among others.

“This partnership will expand our capabilities, provide new professional growth opportunities for our employees, and allow us to better serve our existing clients in the western U.S. markets,” says Chris Crawford, RVi president.

Atwell has more than 500 employees and 15 offices across the U.S. and Canada, including Ann Arbor, Toronto, and Houston.
