CMU Business Accelerator to Expand Through Great Lakes Bay Region

The board of directors of Central Michigan University Research Corp., a business accelerator headquartered in Mount Pleasant, today voted to fund an expansion that will establish new facilities in two cities within the Great Lakes Bay Region.

One new facility is planned for Bay City. Details on the second city and buildings in both locations will be finalized in the coming months.

“This facility will bring (CMU Research Corp.’s) expertise, resources, and pipelines, but also CMU, directly to Bay City and other communities,” says George E. Ross, president of CMU and chair of the accelerator’s board of directors.

Like the Mount Pleasant facility, CMU Research Corp.’s two new spaces will serve as spaces to connect entrepreneurs to each other while providing intellectual, technological, and material resources.

“This expansion will allow us to better serve entrepreneurs and make all that (CMU Research Corp.) has to offer even more accessible,” says Erin Strang, president and CEO of CMU Research Corp.

The accelerator, a nonprofit created as part of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., provides assistance with business plan development, commercial assessments, connections to resources for prototype development, crowdfunding platform access, and networking opportunities with fellow members.

More than 75 entrepreneurs and businesses are members of the CMU Research Corp.
