The Children’s Hospital of Michigan at the Detroit Medical Center will break ground this fall on a $42 million outpatient facility in Troy.
The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center at 350 W. Big Beaver Rd. will include a 24-hour pediatric emergency room among other children-specific features.
“Having a sick, injured, or chronically ill child is not easy for the child or parents, and when a child requires outpatient specialty care it may mean frequent outpatient appointments,” says Larry Gold, CEO of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. “Having this facility located closer to home for so many of the patients we serve will help make the lives of many families just a bit easier.”
The preliminary site plan was approved Wednesday by the city’s planning commission for the 63,000-square-foot facility that is expected to provide about 60 on-site construction jobs during the 13-month build project and 100 full-time jobs when operational, likely by late 2015.
