Chevrolet unveiled its Silverado EV ZR2 off-road race truck concept at the Mint 400 off-road race run in and around Las Vegas. Chad Hall was the driver.
The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept joined the Hall team’s Silverado ZR2 and Colorado ZR2 race trucks. It raced in the Open Production EV class.
“There is no better proving ground to test the limits of our vehicles than competitive racing,” says Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, which uses 98 percent GM production parts, showcases some of the best of Chevrolet to produce a beyond-capable pickup to tackle a challenging race of the Mint 400’s magnitude.”
Though a concept, the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck follows the same ZR2 formula as the Colorado ZR2 and Silverado ZR2 with:
- Lifted, front and rear suspension with specific off-road tuning that continues to deliver on the pavement.
- Multimatic damper technology.
- Locking differentials.
- Underbody skid protection.
The off-road Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept came to life after five months of development. The cornerstone of the race truck’s off-road chops are prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve continuously adaptive dampers. These dampers provide off-road performance for the more than 13 inches of front and rear wheel travel.
The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck features 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires, and a tri-motor electric propulsion system that creates 1,100 horsepower and 11,500 lb.-ft. of torque.
Chevrolet engineers embedded themselves with the Chad Hall Racing team to analyze the race truck’s performance, durability, and capability. Each lesson will be applied to production vehicles, performance parts, and accessories from Chevrolet.
“Working with the Chevy engineers is always a good day at the office,” says Chad Hall, primary driver and owner of Chad Hall Racing. “What we learn from racing is applied to vehicles consumers can buy. An off-road race like The Mint 400 is equivalent to a lifetime of vehicle wear and tear.”
The Silverado ZR2 race truck concept’s reveal comes as Chevrolet prepares to launch the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss, its first off-road oriented EV variant this summer.
