Michigan consumers have one more day to enroll in a health care plan and ensure uninterrupted coverage into the new year through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Tuesday.

“Blue Cross wants to give Michigan residents every opportunity to obtain health coverage and have it effective Jan. 1,” says Terry Burke, vice president for individual business at BCBSM. “We have expanded call center hours, added people to our phone lines to answer questions, and (extended) our enrollment deadline to give people more time.”

Michigan residents can enroll by calling 855-892-8089, contacting a licensed Blue Cross agent, or visiting bcbsm.com/myblue. Advisers will be available through 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Earlier this month, the health insurance company increased staff to more than 400 licensed health plan advisers to manage the increased call volume throughout December.

For consumers who do not qualify for government subsidies, BCBSM/BCN offer an identical set of ACA-compliant products available “off-marketplace.” They also have until Tuesday to enroll in Keep Fit, the only pre-Affordable Care Act health plan left open by BCBSM for 2014. People enrolling in Keep Fit can remain in this pre-ACA plan until December 2014.
