Genesee Valley Mall in Flint is the home to the first Oye Crepes restaurant in the United States.

Peacock Spice Co. of Bloomfield, which opened the Flint eatery last week, has two locations in India and is looking at additional sites throughout metro Detroit, including Oakland County, says Andrea Ahonen, a company spokeswoman.

“We’re looking at freestanding locations, but we’re most interested in malls and strip malls, where there would be a lot of (foot) traffic,” Ahonen says.

Oye Crepes sells sweet and savory crepes, waffles, panini, and rice bowls. Customers can choose from several fillings including meat, chicken, vegetables, fresh fruit, mozzarella, and chocolate.

“Crepes are a perennial favorite anytime food in Europe, where they can bought hot off the griddle (and) filled with fresh, tasty and healthy fillings,” says Smita Ahluwalia, founder of Oye Crepes. “We felt there was a niche for a new type of convenience restaurant where we strive to bring you the same European flair along with an unbeatable American twist.”

Oye Crepes is also available for catering family and corporate events, area shows, and festivals. Ahluwalia launched Peacock Spice Co. several years ago and today the company sells its products in more than 300 natural foods and specialty food stores in the country, including Kroger, Whole Foods, and Epicurean restaurants.
