Birmingham’s Schechter has announced it is the first insurance company to have insurance sold as an alternative investment on New York’s CAIS, a financial technology platform connecting financial advisers with alternative investments. Schechter is an independent insurance advisory firm.

The partnership was formed because insurance can add value to clients’ financial portfolios.

“Insurance is often underutilized by advisers. It can play a valuable role when designed properly to protect, grow, and transfer wealth,” says Matt Brown, founder and CEO of CAIS. “We are fully committed to helping independent financial advisers differentiate their solutions to improve their clients’ outcomes.”

Insurance products have evolved into financial tools that offer tax-advantaged opportunities for high net worth investors. Schechter has specialized in helping financial advisers evaluate and implement insurance strategies.

“Insurance strategies are a critical component when offering holistic financial advice,” says Brown.  “Insurance can be complex, and most advisers seek a specialist. Schechter’s track record of servicing advisers is unmatched.”

Through the new offering, advisers will have access to education and advice on actionable insurance strategies, end-to-end analysis and research, underwriting, support, and policy administration, customized implementation meeting clients’ needs, a menu of more than 20 A or A+ S&P-rated insurance carriers, a streamlined workflow, and commission-based and fee-based insurance offerings.

“For decades, our team has helped advisers achieve their clients’ unique financial objectives through an entirely customizable approach,” says Marc Schechter, senior managing director of Schechter. “We’re excited to bring our advanced insurance capabilities to the CAIS Platform and its network of advisers.”

Schechter goes beyond traditional life insurance offerings and includes professionals from many different designations. Schechter works with high net worth families on tax, business succession, and wealth transfer challenges, conducting market research and anomaly-based strategies to create solutions and product designs.

With the addition of insurance solutions, CAIS works to level the playing field by providing independent financial advisers with access to a variety of in-demand alternative products.

CAIS provides independent financial advisers with access to top-tier managers of specialized products in the multi-trillion-dollar independent wealth channel.

Schechter is a boutique, third-generation financial services firm.
