Blossoms, a Birmingham-based floral boutique, will open a new location in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood this August. The new location is the florist’s second boutique.

The store, located at 4152 Third St., will offer a selection of imported and seasonal flowers, tropical flowers and orchids, basket gardens, floral arrangements, as well as gifts, candles, vintage flower vases, and fragrances. Flowers can be ordered online or by phone for delivery in Detroit and the suburbs.

“There is no other shop of its kind currently in the city,” says Norm Silk, owner of Blossoms. “We do business with many Detroit businesses, institutions, and residents, and this will provide an opportunity for them to shop locally.”

The new location will also feature a space called Blossoming Artists to showcase emerging artisans in the city.

“The idea is to provide exposure for Detroit students and artists, and sell their work at a modest cost,” he says. “We hope the exposure will lead to the opportunity to show in other galleries in the future as they become known. We will hold gallery openings and invite the public.”

The new Blossoms location will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The business will continue to operate its Birmingham store and design center, located at 33866 Woodward Ave.

Silk co-founded an event planning company in 1977 that later went on to become Blossoms. The new Detroit store, which he says will feature a warm, weathered, and vintage feel, is located in the space where the event company began as an original design center.
