Detroit commercial real estate giant Bedrock has sold the vacant Albert Kahn-designed building at 201 W. Fort St. in Detroit to Flood Law for a reported $2.5 million.
Flood Law, owned by noted personal injury attorney Todd Flood, will move from its current home in the Murphy-Telegraph Building at 155 W. Congress St. to the five-story, 82,942-square-foot historic structure built in 1945. No timeline has been set for the move.
According to a joint a statement from the companies, redevelopment plans for the property include a “mixed-use, multi-level space” with “modern amenities.”
“The acquisition of 201 West Fort St. by Todd Flood from Bedrock represents the alignment of two companies dedicated to a thriving central business district,” the statement reads. “The commitment from Todd Flood, a local business and community leader, to expand Flood Law’s headquarters in downtown Detroit and bring new life to 201 West Fort is a best-case outcome.”
The building originally was occupied by Detroit Trust Co., which merged with Detroit Savings Bank in 1956 to become the Detroit Bank & Trust Co. The company developed a skyscraper next door at 211 W. Fort St. in the 1960s and left 201 W. Fort St.
Comerica Bank purchased the structure in 1982 and stayed there until early 2018, when it sold the building to Bedrock for a reported $5 million.
