Beaumont Hospital in Troy has opened its new Frances and Dominic Moceri Learning Center, which was created to be a resource for physicians, nurses, Oakland University medical students, and more.

Funded by a $10 million donation from local property developers Frances and Dominic Moceri, the largest gift in the hospital’s 39-year history, the 20,000-square-foot learning center features a skills laboratory with patient simulators, which are programmed to simulate various medical emergencies, surgical procedures, and conditions. Each simulation session or training is videotaped from a control room and shared with team members after they complete an exercise.

“The beautiful, new learning center and its world-class skills lab will ensure our medical team, as well as medical students, will learn leading edge technologies and best practices about complex illnesses and traumatic injuries through life-like simulators,” says Nancy Susick, president of Beaumont Troy. “This will enhance our delivery of care.”

Connected to a 175-seat multimedia auditorium, the center also features classrooms and the hospital’s largest computer lab. Health and wellness programs for area residents will also be held at the center.

Construction on the center, which is located on the ground floor on the west side of the hospital’s campus (near the Emergency Center), began in 2015.

The gift by the Moceri’s also supported the completion of a 12-bed, medical unit in the hospital’s Critical Care Tower, now known as the Frances and Dominic Moceri Medical Intensive Care Unit.

Part of Beaumont Health, Beaumont Hospital Troy is a 520-bed, acute care community teaching hospital. Along with the Troy location, Beaumont Health also offers medical simulation learning in Royal Oak and Dearborn.
