Beaumont Health Systems has opened a concussion clinic in Royal Oak to offer comprehensive, specialized care for children and adults who experience a concussion.

“Unlike other concussion programs, our new clinic is staffed by neuroscience experts providing prompt outpatient care,” says Dr. Daniel B. Michael, the clinic’s medical director. “Knowing the warning signs of a concussion and when to seek medical attention is critical.”

Michael says one of the most common injuries evaluated and treated in children is cerebral concussion, which is the onset of short-lived impairment of brain function after a mild head injury. Other than loss of consciousness, typical symptoms and signs include confusion, disorientation, dizziness, amnesia, headaches, loss of balance, nausea/vomiting, slurred speech, and double vision.

IN OTHER BEAUMONT NEWS, designer Pamella Roland will host a runway fashion show Wednesday at Saks Fifth Avenue in Troy as part of its Heart to Heart luncheon. The fashion show will showcase Roland’s resort and spring 2015 collections, with proceeds from the event benefiting Beaumont Health System’s Florine and J. Peter Ministrelli Women’s Heart Center.

“We are beyond thrilled and honored to have Pamella in our Troy store,” says Ina Levinson, vice president and general manager for Saks. “Her inspiring design will capture the imaginations of our clients and guests, and the pairing of Pamella’s collection with the fabulous Beaumont Heart to Heart event could not be more fitting.”
