Pennsylvania-based Penn National Gaming expects to open its Barstool Sportsbook today at Greektown Casino Hotel in Detroit, subject to any final regulatory approvals.

However, while Penn says Barstool Sportsbook opens at the casino, Mary Kay Bean, spokeswoman of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, told Casino.org that authorized online gaming and mobile sportsbooks will be permitted to launch their operations in mid-January. The board lists Penn Interactive and Barstool Sportsbooks as active online gaming licensees. According to Greektown’s answering machine, the casino is closed today.

The new Barstool Sportsbook is located on the second floor of the Greektown Casino adjacent to the table games area. It features an entryway, sports viewing area and dining space, a betting counter that features odds boards, sports betting kiosks, and ticket writer stations that will support thousands of sports wagering options for customers.

“The new design showcases the spirit of the Barstool Sports brand, resulting in an outstanding sports wagering experience that we expect our customers will thoroughly enjoy,” says John Drake, vice president and general manager at Greektown Casino.

Guests will also be able to earn tier points and mycash using the company’s myChoice loyalty program when wagering at the sportsbook.

Penn National has 41 properties across 19 states. In February 2020, the company entered into a strategic partnership with Barstool Sports whereby Barstool is exclusively promoting Penn’s land-based and online casinos and sports betting products, including the Barstool Sportsbook mobile app.
