Detroit coworking space operator and designer Bamboo will open a location in the heart of downtown Royal Oak, in a 20,000-square-foot, modern workspace at 220 S Main St. formerly occupied by Bright Ideas Furniture. The facility is slated to open as Bamboo Royal Oak in the fall.
The expansion outside of Detroit, developed in partnership with the Ferlito Group of Detroit, more than doubles the square footage of space that Bamboo holds and operates in downtown Detroit.
“We look forward to supporting the existing and growing businesses in Royal Oak by contributing a vibrant and modern workspace, community programming, and amenities to the neighborhood,” says Amanda Lewan, co-founder and CEO of Bamboo. “We believe our role at Bamboo is to help diversify our economy and spur business development.”
Bamboo and its development partners plan to redevelop and redesign the three-floor Royal Oak building into an affordable, contemporary space. Offerings will include turnkey or customizable offices with a community atmosphere. Resources combined with a knowledgeable staff will create an environment where larger companies can find local talent and small businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals can thrive, according to Lewan. Additionally, it will be utilized for private and public event rentals.
“It’s very important everything be designed with Bamboo members in mind, and for it to be a professional and inclusive atmosphere for its tenants to flourish and grow through a variety of spaces,” says Lisa Sauve, principal of Synecdoche Design Studio. “Bamboo Royal Oak will highlight the original building character, incorporate natural finishes, utilize daylight and greenery, and a clean and functional design.”
Bamboo provides its growing membership with the convenience of becoming part of the community and the economic landscape of the city and region. Bamboo’s flagship coworking space is located on Washington Boulevard in downtown Detroit.
