Autoliv, an automotive safety systems manufacturer, has broken ground on a new facility in Southfield.

The new tech center, located at American Drive and I-696, will span approximately 180,000 square feet. The project is expected to be finished in the first half of 2019.

The new facility sits on 10 acres and will help the automotive supplier consolidate its operations and relocate 600 workers. Autoliv also has plans to add to its workforce over the next five years, as the new tech center can house up to 900 employees.

Jonna Realty Ventures owns the property, and its sister company, Jonna Construction, is acting as the construction manager for the project.

“Jonna Realty Ventures and our sister company, Jonna Construction, are working together to build this state-of-the-art building for Autoliv,” says Christine Jonna Piligian, president of Jonna Realty Ventures in Bloomfield Hills.

“The facility will provide and innovative environment to support the sophisticated operations conducted at the property, including the creation of automated driving technology and new, clean mobility along with other high-technology and engineering work.”
