The latest addition to FCA US LLC’s Fiat 124 Spider lineup, the 2017 Fiat 124 Elaborazione Abarth, will debut later this week at the New York International Auto Show, offering added performance features.

“Our new Fiat 124 Spider is an iconic roadster that combines classic Italian styling with modern performance and technology,” says Olivier François, head of the Fiat Brand at FCA — Global. “The addition of our new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth further enhances the driving experience.”

The heir of the roadster that drove Fiat to its first European Rally Championship win in the 1970s, the Fiat 124 Elaborazione Abarth offers rear-wheel drive and a 1.4-liter engine that gets 160 horsepower and more than 180 pounds per feet of torque. The car also has a sports mode that changes the calibrations of the engine, automatic transmission, electric power steering, and dynamic stability control system.

The roadster comes equipped with unique front and rear fascia, black side sills, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and a chrome quad-tip exhaust. The Fiat 124 Elaborazione Abarth has a dark gray header, mirror cover, and roll bar, with available exterior paint options including white, red, metallic gray, and metallic black.

The interior of the vehicle has red stitching on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, instrument cluster hood, lower instrument panel, and parking brake.

François says a mechanical limited slip differential, featuring a low torque bias ratio, provides improved traction and handling. The vehicle’s suspension includes mono-tube front and rear shock absorbers for increased traction and more precise handling.

The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider lineup also includes the Classica and Lusso models. The vehicle will arrive in U.S. dealerships in the summer.
