Auburn Hills-based Hirschmann Solutions Launches Fleet Communications Module

2071

Auburn Hills-based Hirschmann Solutions, a supplier of antenna and transceiver systems, has partnered with a telematics service provider to launch M2M Gateway, a module that provides advanced communications and connectivity for fleet vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, and construction and agricultural equipment.

“The M2M Gateway enables higher speed connectivity and data throughput, which in turn allows (our company) to deliver … (better) driver safety, fleet operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance,” says Todd Follmer, CEO of Salt Lake based Inthinc, the company that  partnered with Hirschman to launch the product.

Frank Homann, U.S president of Hirschman, says the M2M Gateway can be used without re-designing or re-certifying existing communication hardware. For example, it can be used in vehicle cabs to provide GPS positioning capabilities to a telematics unit. He says Wi-Fi-enabled devices can connect to the Internet by using the integrated Wi-Fi router.

“Our new M2M Gateway… coupled with the unit’s GPS and Wi-Fi capabilities and an open source development environment, we now can offer a single box solution that partners like Inthinc can rapidly deploy for their targeted customers and applications,” Homann says.

Hirschmann Solutions, the business unit of Hirschmann Car Communication GmbH, Germany, develops antennas, communication modules with embedded transceivers, tracking devices, and in-vehicle entertainment. The company employs more than 900 people worldwide.
